Support
us, support music in schools.
MFMII is a nonprofit organization which has
helped to keep music in children’s classrooms and lives for the past
20 years by recruiting, training, and supporting community
volunteers. There are several areas in MFMII needing your financial
support so that we might share more music with more children.
Currently we are involved in our matching funds project thanks to
an anonymous donor. All funds
raised from now until February will be matched so we would greatly
appreciate your support at this time which doubles your dollar.
Defer our training
costs.
Current volunteers include parents and
grandparents of students, college students, retired teachers, seniors,
as well as community members-at-large. Training
occurs every fall accredited through Ohlone College in Fremont and the
Castro Valley Adult School in Castro Valley.
The cost of training
one volunteer is approximately $100 as the volunteer receives all
materials freely from Music for Minors II. In addition they have free
access to our four resource centers filled with music materials and
visual aides. Donations to help
supply and maintain these centers are also requested.
Underwriter
of our concerts.
MFMII sponsors community concerts annually with guest children’s
recording artists such as Red Grammer and Charlotte Diamond. Donations to offset artist and facility fees are needed so that
this main annual community fundraiser will succeed. All proceeds benefit the program directly.
In addition to our concerts, MFMII
also sponsors Student Showcases that provide children professional
performance opportunities within the community at local theaters. Donations help offset facility fees and program expenses.
Fund our
scholarships.
MFMII seeks scholarship funds for
our volunteers to offset their tuition cost for the training classes.
In addition, we request funds to support our volunteers taking in-service
workshops with other musical organizations such as the National Orff and
Kodaly Associations.

Be a Docent.
Making the musical difference in a child’s life is one of the most
rewarding experiences of one’s life as reported by our volunteers.
If you love music and children and know that music is essential
to a child’s development and school curriculum, becoming a MFMII
docent is for you. Basic music
skills of keeping beat and singing on pitch are required and then the
comprehensive training program will prepare you for the ½ hour weekly
music lessons in the schools. Training
classes are from mid-Sept. through mid-Nov. every fall and are filled
with the joy of making music together. The
rewards are great knowing you have touched
children’s minds and hearts forever. The children cheer when
our docents arrive for class!
Be
a Board Member.
Another wonderful way to support music for children is to become a MFMII
Board of Directors member. The
Board consists of 9 members from the community who are also strong
advocates for music. There is no
requirement for musical ability but rather a commitment to the value and
need for music in children’s lives. The Board meets monthly in the
evening to oversee the program which includes planning the yearly
calendar and fundraising activities. See general and specific board
member responsibilities by clicking here.
Be a
Liaison.
Contact persons are needed at our
school sites called liaisons. They
provide the communication link between MFMII and the schools we serve.
They attend only 2 meetings a year (fall and spring) and help
promote the MFMII program at the school sites.
No musical ability required but just a commitment to the MFMII
mission.
Be an Event
Volunteer.
Another opportunity for supporting MFMII is to join us in our event
planning and/or implementation. Volunteers
are needed on committees or at the actual events such as ushering,
setting up decorations, ticket taking, attending our booths, etc.
Be a Resource
Center Helper.
Volunteers are needed to help maintain and inventory
our resource centers. Time is
flexible but weekly visits to sites is minimum requirement.
